16.In the USA they became even more popular than the Beatles and sold even more re-cords.在美国,他们甚至比“甲壳虫”乐队还要受欢迎,出售的录音专辑还要多。
    教材p.34
    The Beatles (甲壳虫乐队)
The Beatles was a British band of the 1960s. They were sometimes called the "Fab Four", meaning the fabulous (极好的) four ( Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) and even the greatest rock'n' roll band of all time. Their American debut (初次登台) on the Ed Sullivan Show in February,1964 has been de-scribed as the single greatest event in rock 'n' roll history. More than 50,000 peopletried to get one of only 703 seats available in the small theatre. Another 73 millionpeople watched on TV. It led to a craze (狂热,疯狂) called "Beatlemania" andchanged the way teenage boys in the West dressed and grew their hair.
Although the Beatles were and still are very popular, they never felt comfortablewith their fame.Indeed, they became so disappointed with the noise and dangers ofplaying concerts that they stopped making tours in the summer of 1965.The rest of thetime they recorded in the studio, appearing together in public only on rare occasions. In 1970,after dozens of hit songs but also after many quarrels among themselves, theBeatles broke up. Each of them went on to experience varying (不同的) degrees of suc-cess as individual (个人的)artists but none ever reached the level of the band's success.Requests from fans and critics alike for them to reunite and tour again were refused. In 1980,John Lennon was shot dead in New York, just outside his home.Still people talked of a reunion among the surviving (活着的 ) members of the band. Then,in 2002 ,George Harri-son died after a long battle with cancer.17.The band broke up about 1970,but happily they reunited in the mid-1980s.“门基乐队”在1970年左右解散,但是令人高兴的是,到80年代中期他们再次聚首。
